Is there a "hostage" in your family? Part one

Communication can be challenging, even with people you've known your whole life. Though there are a million reasons why working on a farm with family is a great experience, it's not without its issues. One of the common causes of tension and strife on the family farm is poor communication.

All too frequently there are hard feelings between generations around the farm's future because of poor communication. If a member of the younger generation hasn't had the farm's legacy explained to him or been part of the actual planning process, he might feel in the dark about his future with the operation or its future in general. This leads to him feeling like a hostage on his own family farm.

Jason Ladman has more on this with Dewey Nelson of KRVN radio.
