Your employees can help make the farm more efficient

One of the goals in any business is to become a low-cost-per-unit producer, reducing your input costs and increasing your profitability. Efficiency is the name of the game, no matter what that game might be or whether you play it on Wall Street or in rural Iowa.

In Jack Stack's book The Great Game of Business, we are told that keeping employees plugged in to the "business of the business" helps create engagement and accountability. To what level you are willing to involve your people is a judgment call of course, but some companies have gone as far as even making their books transparent to all employees. Whatever your choice, remember that creating a culture of accountability and giving everyone a focus for their energy makes for an environment that drives results.

Water Street Solutions Senior Director Dean Heffta discusses a way to create that focus for your employees' energy in what Stack calls the Critical Number. Learn more as Dean talks it over with KRVN's Dewey Nelson.
